Derventio Brigantum is now known as Malton.
The site was surveyed in the 1930's and many artifacts found. the main findings were the defences and interior buildings of the north-east corner of the fort.
Later excavations were carried out in 1949 and 1952 by the Ministry of Works.
During excavations in 1970 a complex building sequence was revealed, with evidence of work during the Trajanic, Severan, Constantian and Theodosian periods.
The original earthworks are still visible in the town.
